In addition, the city is small, and thus you can cover the major attractions within the city in a weekend.
When you come by train or flight, it is better to come to Jaisalmer in the morning. The city has many boutique hotels and traditional heritage stays that offer warm hospitality with traditional Rajasthani decoration. Decide whether you want to stay at or close to the fort to have the heritage feel.
Begin your excursion with the classic Jaisalmer Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is still alive, as was the case with other forts; people live within its walls, and you will find busy shops, cafes, and temples. As one walks along its narrow alleys, one gets a feeling that one has been transported back a long time ago.
In the afternoon, see the large havelis of Jaisalmer. The most well-known is Patwon Ki Haveli, whose architecture and historic importance are detailed. The peacock-shaped balconies of Salim Singh Ki Haveli also provide you with another insight into the opulent lives of merchants in Jaisalmer.
You can finish your first day at Gadisar Lake, a quiet place right outside the city. Sitting by the lake and viewing the sunset with boats slowly riding along the lake is a welcome relief to the golden desert mood.
Wake up to a heavy Rajasthani breakfast, consider poha, kachori, or gatte ki sabzi with parathas. You can then take a brief walk in the nearby markets to grab some souvenirs, such as camel-related articles, mirror work clothes, or leatherware.
Go to Sam Sand Dunes, 40 km outside Jaisalmer, by afternoon. It is your best moment during your weekend trip and the one that you will never forget. Along the route, you will see miles and miles of desert and small towns, which make the trip interesting.
After arrival, you can select a camel safari to ride through the dunes. The movement of the camel and the huge golden desert surrounding you is unreal. You can visit the Dubai dunes and go dune bashing in a 4x4 jeep, which is an exciting experience and another way of seeing how large the desert is.
The desert camp is the best place to spend the evening. These camps aim to provide you with a comfortable desert experience. You will also be greeted with folk music and dance around a bonfire. The desert is entertained by the local folk artists in colorful costumes as they sing and dance.
The sky is filled with stars as the night deepens, something you can hardly see in the city. The time spent under the open desert sky is one to remember.
When you have a third day, spend it and then go back to relax. Early morning camel riding is available in many desert camps, and the experience is magical when the sun is coming out over the dunes. You can visit Jaisalmer city again after breakfast to do one final round of shopping or photography before you go home.

Travel:Trains and flights can be taken to reach Jaisalmer from major cities, or you can drive from Jodhpur.
Clothing:Lightweight cotton in the daytime and warm clothes in the cold desert evenings.
Local Etiquette: Local traditions are to be respected, such as visiting temples.
